Director of Marketing & Business Development

As our Director of Marketing & Business Development, you’ll help lead the firm forward, continuing our successes and bringing new vitality and exciting ideas to the firm. You’ll wear many “hats” in this role, but some of the most important parts of the position include:

Business Development: The Director of Marketing & Business Development is a “face of the firm” position, as you’ll be the point of contact for industry partners, entrepreneurial organizations and other important firm relationships. For many of these relationships, you’ll be the first Hutch contact that they meet—and will be the person they reach out to the most. One of the major areas of focus for this position will be helping our attorneys achieve their business development goals. Whether it’s overseeing the creation of marketing materials or helping make connections and deepen relationships, your contributions to this part of the firm are vital. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Thinking strategically about new business development initiatives and facilitating discussions among the attorneys about growing and developing our practice
  • Designing and updating marketing collateral and materials
  • Planning and executing client and marketing events/sponsorship opportunities
  • Supporting attorneys in preparation for presentations and speaking engagements and strategically deploying attorneys based on personal strengths and marketing objectives
  • Representing the firm at events (may require working outside of regular business hours and travel)
  • Supporting attorneys by promoting and executing a measurable client feedback program, including liaising with clients and referral sources to obtain productive feedback and actionable market intelligence
  • Coordinating the firm’s strategic partnerships with local business and philanthropic organizations to facilitate economic growth for our clients and to enhance our firm’s entrepreneurial and social impact in the region

Content Creation and Distribution: Like many growing businesses, we’ve “leaned in” on digital marketing and consider it a valuable part of our marketing strategy. We’d love to find someone with multi-channel experience who can bring some fresh and exciting ideas to the table to keep the momentum going. Using our brand identity standards, you’ll have a host of responsibilities in this part of your job, and lots of room to make this part of the position your own. Major areas of focus include:

  • Managing and updating the website using a content management system and outside vendor, including using search engine optimization best practices
  • Working with outside podcast producer to create monthly episodes of our Founder Shares podcast
  • Managing social media presence (LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube)
  • Designing and scheduling email marketing campaigns such as newsletters, client alerts, event invites and holiday e-card
  • Distributing content to outside relationships and memberships
  • Overseeing digital advertising and video contracts and commitments
  • Managing and implementing client satisfaction surveys with the goal of obtaining testimonials

Data: We LOVE data, and in this role, you’ll have access to a lot of it. From website metrics to client data, you’ll analyze it and provide strategic feedback on our marketing and business development efforts. You’ll attend meetings with the managing partners and executive team and will be in charge of your own marketing/BD budget- and we’ll look to you to help identify the best “bang for our buck” on our marketing and BD dollars. Areas of data-related focus include:

  • Creating and tracking key metrics and reporting to management committee and partnership
  • Tracking and identifying return on investment for business development and marketing spend
  • Collecting and reporting transaction closing data
  • Managing and maintaining CRM database (liaison with outside vendors)

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • 3-5 years of professional marketing experience (leadership position preferred)
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in marketing or equivalent experience
    • Previous experience in business development roll (preferably in a professional services organization)
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in Microsoft Suite and Adobe Creative Suite
    • Experience with content management systems, CRM tools, social media management platforms, email messaging systems and website analytics tools
    • Willingness to learn new technologies and channels as needed
  • Soft Skills:
    • Self-starter with a high degree of personal initiative
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Keen attention to detail
    • Ability to manage multiple projects
    • Understanding of law firm operations and culture or willingness to learn
    • Ability to establish professional business contacts and maximize networking skills
    • Team player who can interact effectively with individuals at all levels of an organization- internally and externally
