Devon White Named President of N.C. Center for Voter Education

RALEIGH – Raleigh attorney Devon White has been named as the new board president of the nonpartisan N.C. Center for Voter Education.
Since joining the Center’s board in 2006 White has played an active role in the organization, including her previous service as the Center’s vice president.
“Devon has been a longtime advocate for reforms that ensure North Carolina voters have clean and fair elections,” said Damon Circosta, executive director of the N.C. Center for Voter Education. “We are extremely proud to have Devon leading our organization as we help citizens engage in their democracy.”
White’s direct work in campaign reform began in earnest in 2004 when she successfully managed an appellate judicial campaign in the debut cycle of the state’s public finance program. Before that time, she had great concern about special interest influence in elections through the unrestrained use of campaign contributions.
As an attorney with the Hutchison Law Group in Raleigh, White practices exclusively in the field of intellectual property law. She also serves as an adjunct law professor of intellectual property law for N.C. Central University and the University of North Carolina. She is a frequent guest speaker on the subject of trademark and copyright law.
White earned her J.D., cum laude, in 2002 from N.C. Central University. In addition to her service with the N.C. Center for Voter Education, she has been a member of the N.C. Bar Association Committee on Women in the Profession. Additionally, she has served on the N.C. Central University School of Law Board of Visitors and as president of the 14th Judicial District Bar and the Durham County Bar Association.
In accepting her new role at the Center, White succeeds state Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin as board president. Former U.S. Sen. Robert Morgan was the Center’s founding president.
